The Met Gala: Punk it Up

The Met Gala: Punk it Up

Ah, the Met Gala. How all the heavy hitters of fashion dream to be (including us!). This year’s annual high-profile ball shares a theme with the Met’s spring exhibition, “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” and the pressure was on for guests, who were torn up over how to choose a gown to both fit the theme and impress Anna Wintour, reports the New York Times.

From dip dyed hair, to spikes, florals, black and glitter, heavy metals, and extremely loud colors, the red carpet stairs were glamorously filled with unique designs, all inspired by the theme of the once 70s phenomenon-punk.

But of course, not all celebrities played along with the theme. Anna Wintour, who wore a pink flowered Chanel dress, said on the red carpet, “The color of punk is pink, that’s why I’m wearing pink.” I’m not so sure about that, but honestly, who is to argue with Anna Wintour? At least we at ESPOSITO, love pink too.

The Met’s “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibit opens on Thursday, May 9 and runs through August 14. The exhibition documents punk’s presence on the runway since the days of the Sex Pistols, Blondie and Vivienne Westwood to its continuing influence today. The exhibit has seven galleries with 100 designs for men and women, music videos and audio.

Be inspired! Take a look at what the design world has to offer in museum history.
